NIGHT WORK ON MIDLAND AVENUE STREETSCAPE PROJECT DECEMBER 7-8

DOWNTOWN PORTION OF MIDLAND AVENUE CLOSED 

Midland Avenue and East Homestead Drive in downtown Basalt will be closed to all through traffic from 7 a.m. on Thursday, December 7 to 5 p.m. on Friday, December 8, 2023.  The closure is due to a coordinated construction effort to complete eight water connections to the new water main as part of the Midland Avenue Streetscape project.  

A total of 19 water connections are being attached to the new water main as part of the Midland Streetscape project.  Eleven have been completed or are scheduled thus far and connecting the remaining eight requires a coordinated effort with all of the connection work occurring at the same time to minimize the impact to the community and for the safety of the construction crew.  A 24-hour water shut off will be necessary for the impacted properties along Midland Avenue and Basalt Center Circle.  Temporary restrooms and water stations will be available in downtown Basalt during the water outage.  

Once the water connections are completed, the construction teams will apply temporary pavement to Midland Avenue, weather permitting.  This represents the last stage of the 2023 project until construction resumes in late winter 2024.

Impacts to the neighbors in the vicinity of Midland Avenue will be noise, dust, bright light, and vibrations throughout the 24-hour work period.  All parking along Midland Avenue will be unavailable starting Wednesday, December 6 at 7 a.m.

Detours will be in place with flaggers present.  Vehicles can access the Frying Pan via Cottonwood Drive and can enter and exit the Homestead neighborhood via West Homestead Drive.  Access to Basalt Center Circle is open.
