The US Forest service plans clear cutting in the Upper Fryingpan Valley that would impact water shed, tourism, traffic on the Fryingpan River Rd, Thomasville, Meredith as well as the town of Basalt tourism on the Fryinpan river. No notice was posted in Eagle or Pitkin county papers so citizens can attend a meeting planned to be held in Carbondale (where no impact would be felt) this month. Clear cutting is not a good practice do to the ability to strip the steep hillsides of the ability to hold soils in place after the cuts are made. They plan on using existing roads that will affect tourism and downtown Basalt an Upper Fryinpan Communities. Please have someone plan to have a meeting in Basalt instead of Carbondale so citizens from the upper Fryingpan area do not have to travel over 100 miles to attend to voice concerns. No local notice has been given except word of mouth for the Basalt Community. This is very serious impact on Basalt, Meredith and Thomasville and Fryinpan River Road.
